Staff Picks

2018 Avinyo Petillant, Spain $16.99

This amazing white blend hails from the Penedes region just south of Barcelona, Spain. We loved this wine from the moment we smelled its aromas! Although it is 70% Muscat, its elegantly sweet on the palate and not what you know as Moscatos from Asti, Italy (which are also lovely). We already know this wine will be a big hit for the warmer months to come. A patio wine with cheeses and some shell fish for sure!

2018 Illahe Viognier, Willamette Valley Oregon $18.99

I have always loved Viognier! Some call it "the red lover's white" or "the white grape that thould have been red". Whatever the case may be, I guess for me, it is the floral weight on the wine while not being bogged down by the weight of an overly oaked Chardonnay. I had this wine after several years again recently when it's winemaker, Brad Ford, paid a visit to Cobble Hill, here in Cedar Rapids. The winemaker's dinner paired this wine (almost served at room temp) with an amazing seafood strata which had everyone on their knees. The following week I knew I needed to re-welcome this little gem back into my shop and it's been love ever since. -Traci

Trabanco Alma Quinquina, Asturias, Spain $24.99

After almost 20 years in the wine industry including domestic and international travel, this little guy might just be one of the most interesting, exciting and delightful little ciders I have ever had! Trabanco is synonymous with natural cider, as the family has been a pioneer in its production since 1925 in Asturias, Spain on the northern boarder (north of Leon). Alma is the perfect aperitif produced by the blending of en rama cider with white wine and various botanicals steeped in vinous alcohol. The primary botanicals in Alma de Trabanco include cinchona, wormwood, savory, gentian, artemisia, boldo, cinnamon, star anise, coriander, thyme, and vanilla. Fruits include cherry, orange peel, and lemon. The flavor profile is bright, refreshing, and satisfying. Serve 4 ounces of Alma de Trabanco in a low, wide-mouth glass with one large ice cube, garnished with a green apple skin.

Terres Dorees Gamay Sparkling, Beaujolais, France $21.99

Gamay is such an underrated grape varietal. Did you know there are over 9 different Gama varietals in Beaujolais?

2016 Poppy Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands CA $13.99

Grapes for this Chardonnay were harvested off our Hillside Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, which H14:H16is located in the Central Coast of California. The pronounced slope of the vineyard with well-drained soils and eastern exposure allows us to select blocks for varying levels of maturity over multiple dates. The foundation of this wine is truly made in the Vineyard. This focused, elegant Chardonnay’s aromas feature sweet golden apple, ripe citrus, tropical fruit and almond with touches of creamy yeast, vanilla and oak in the background. On the palate, the rich flavors are complemented by a light touch of toasty oak and refreshing citrus with mineral notes and bright acidity in the finish.
