Negroamaro (seldom Negro amaro; meaning "black [and] bitter") is a red wine grape variety native to southern Italy. It is grown almost exclusively in Apulia and particularly in Salento, the peninsula which can be visualized as the "heel" of Italy. The grape can produce wines very deep in color. Wines made from Negroamaro tend to be very rustic in character, combining perfume with an earthy bitterness. The Negroamaro has a ruby red color, which over the years takes on garnet tones and intense fruity and floral aromas, with spicy and toasted notes if aged in wood.

About this wine...Jeff fell in love with the complexity, elegance,
and nuance he found in this pair of older
vineyards, with vines from 70 to 100+ years old. Floral notes of violet and lilac on the nose are
brightened by pure fruit: dried cherry, strawberry preserve, candied plums, and raspberry. Fruit persists through the middle with lovely bright acidity. Barrel notes of
vanilla and sweet coffee roast provide a soft,
silky structure to this elegant wine. 500 cases produced

  • 2017 Chapel HIll GSM & 2018 Chapel Hill Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia

2017 Chapel HIll GSM & 2018 Chapel Hill Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia

    $17.99

It isn't a mystery that Australian wines sales have taken a nose dive in the USA the past decade. I remember when we first opened 17 years ago, we had an entire rack devoted to Australian wines alone. Over the years people just stopped asking for them or found mass brands like Yellow Tail at the grocery stores settling for a recipe rather then a hand crafted brand. When Chapel Hill was introduced to me, I knew I needed to bring them into the shop. Not only for the history behind the brand but the quality and price. Family owned wineries are what it is about! Here is a not to the land down under!

  • 2018 Lionel Gosseaume Gamay & 2019 2018 Lionel Gosseaume Sauvignon Blanc, Loire, France

2018 Lionel Gosseaume Gamay & 2019 2018 Lionel Gosseaume Sauvignon Blanc, Loire, France

    SB $14.99 Gamay $11.99

We have really kicked our international wine selections up in the past two years at the Wine House. There is so much to learn about wine from across the pond including the family stories behind the brands. Lionel Gosseaume is the son and grandson of winegrowers. He grew up in his family’s vineyard, but spent most of his adult life as far away from the vines as possible. In 2007 the call of the vines proved too strong and he returned home and acquired his own 22 acre vineyard from his father’s friend, Jean-Claude. Jean-Claude lived for his vines and he still works in the vineyard today, teaching Lionel what he has learned in a lifetime in winemaking.

Staff Picks

2017 Viranel Pepite Mourvedre
2017 Viranel Pepite Mourvedre
$24.99

Mourvedre is one of those underestimated grapes often times used in blending. Mourvedre (also known as Monasterell) originated in Spain. It is high in tannin because of its thick rich skin.

2019 Taliano Moscato D' Asti DOCG
2019 Taliano Moscato D' Asti DOCG
$15.99

Moscato is one of the most purchased varietals in the mid-west. The "asti" part of the name often gets confused with the degree of sweetness while only meaning where it is from. D'Asti means "from Asti" where moscato is most widely grown. This moscato is delicate and intense with floral scents reminiscent of acacia, lime and fruit such as peach, apricot and orange. In the mouth the sensation of sweetness is well balanced by the right acidity and moderate alcohol content, all of which is enhanced by the development of small bubbles.

2018 Giapoza Cabernet, Napa, CA
2018 Giapoza Cabernet, Napa, CA
$16.99

Recently awarded a 90 pt score by Wine Enthusiast and our #1 sold wine in the store, we had to make a staff pick for this wine! The 2018 Giapoza Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with aromas of red cherry, ripe red raspberries, and a hint of rich barrel char. In the mouth, the wine is packed with red plum, freshly roasted coffee, milk chocolate, and the richness of toasted French oak barrel. Flavors of clove and nutmeg dance throughout the lengthy finish. This wine hails from The Pozzan family who reside in Napa! Many of you remember meeting Matt Pozzan during his past two visits to the Wine House!

2016 Yamhill Estate Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon
2016 Yamhill Estate Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon
$16.99

Established in 1983, Yamhill Valley Vineyards is the oldest winery in the McMinnville AVA. What makes Yamhill special is that all of the Yamhill wines are grown on their own 150 acre estate. They are also growers for many of Oregon's most famous Pinot Noir producers. Bright and vibrant, this wine’s sweet-and-sour cherry scents have a juicy burst of flavor, pulling together lively acids and ripe tannins. This is such a gem!

2019 Monchiero Arneis, Piedmont, Italy
2019 Monchiero Arneis, Piedmont, Italy
$16.99

Arnies is a grape not many in the US know about. I love it because it is crisp and clean like a Sauvignon Blanc with no oak weight at all. This particular family in Italy, The Monchiero's, have been farming grapes for generations and own 25 acres throughout Piedmont , Barolo and Alba. This wine is straw yellow in color with complex aromas of white flowers and green
apple. Medium - full bodied and dry, a subtle mineral streak frames
lovely flavors of apricot, pear and citrus all balanced by crisp acidity. It is wonderful with creamy pasta dishes, shellfish, light fish and chicken.

2016 Chateau Meillier Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France
2016 Chateau Meillier Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France
$15.99

Château Meillier has been home to the Duprat family for three generations. Their 85-acre vineyard is situated about the highest elevation point in Entre-deux-Mers, about 500 feet above sea level. This is high for Bordeaux, and the area is known locally as La Butte de Launay. The soil here is dominated by clay and limestone, and is well suited for producing rich, fruity Merlot and structured Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is dark ruby in color with ripe, red fruit aromas. medium-full bodied and
structured with generous – almost jammy – fruit, balanced by gentle
acidity, and ripe tannins. It pairs well with anything off the grill and soft cheeses!
Wine Enthusiast awarded this vintage 90 pts!!!

2018 Trewa Malbec, Famatina Valley, Argentina
2018 Trewa Malbec, Famatina Valley, Argentina
$12.99

When we think of wine from Argentina, we mostly think of Mendoza. This little gem hails from the Famatina Valley, a remote, dry and dusty river valley in the foothills of the Andes which is high in altitude. This area is mostly known for the famous white Argentine grape called Torrontes but Malbec, Bonarda and Cabernet are likewise grown in this valley. This 2018 vintage is rich and has a delightfully long finish.
